AM I WRONG FOR GETTING MY SON A HALLOWEEN COSTUME DESPITE MY HUSBAND’S OBJECTIONS?

AM I WRONG FOR GETTING MY SON A HALLOWEEN COSTUME DESPITE MY HUSBAND’S OBJECTIONS?

My husband and I have a 5-year-old son. My husband grew up in a family with strict views on gender roles, where boys play with cars and girls with dolls. Our son, however, absolutely loves unicorns and wanted to dress up as one for Halloween. My husband disagreed, saying he’d take him to pick out a more “boyish” costume instead.

I found a unicorn costume in his size, wrapped it up, and surprised him with it after school. He was thrilled and put it on immediately. My husband, however, accused me of pushing our son to be “too girly” and insisted I should have chosen something like Spiderman or Superman. This happened over the weekend, but he’s still upset with me.

Am I really wrong for buying my son the costume he wanted?
